WOW.
With Dzingel and Pageau resigned I think the Cup might actually be lifted in Ottawa.

Not everyone can get a 40 year old Marleau signed for 3 years at 6.5

I know no cap room for anything

LOL jk, LTIR carries over into summer - that means lots of cap space FYI.
With Marleaus bonus paid out in July of 2019 it's basically a two year deal with Robidas Island vacation for the third year.

I mean did any Sens even hit 27 goals last year?
Between Ryan and Phaneuf you have just under 15M tied up.

Excited to hear your retort.

Turis had 27G and 28A with a $3.5M cap hit. He is at $3.5M next year as well and is 10 years younger.

Marleau had 27G and 19A with a $6.6M cap hit playing with Thornton. Love that $6.5M he is at for the next 3 years up to his 40th.

As an aside, Hoffman had 26G/35A ($5.2M) and Stone 22G/32A ($3.5M). Both are 10 years younger than PM.

this was pointless and silly. comparing the two teams offenses won t favour the Sens. Unless of course you match all of Ottawa's best forwards with a single depth veteran the Leafs paid a premium for. How about comparing Turris Stone Ryan and Hoffman to guys like Kadri Matthews JVR Nylander. what their salary was and their goal totals last year. Two of them are pretty young.

Toronto's forward crew is scary good. Better than Sens for sure. But with 2 playoff appearances since 2004, with first round exits, you'd expect them to have become a perennial cup contender years ago. The roster the Sens have put together while being an almost yearly playoff team is much more impressive than the Leafs, given the circumstances.

I'm not going to judge the current staff and team based on failures of people who aren't part of the team anymore. very silly thing to do. Leafs are doing an excellent job right now from the hiring of the front office, the coach, recent drafts etc. This current collection is just getting started. There is nothing impressive about the Sens outside of Karlsson tbh in terms of their current group of players. The Leafs have an impressive coach and group of young players. They had none of it years ago. Not really sure what your point is ..

In general, you're right. The Leafs have made an impressive turn around in terms of stocking the cupboards. I think Marner will be great and Nylander should be good. But getting Matthews was the key. Very much like the Sens getting Karlsson. You need a perennial all star in order to be successful.

I'm not a fan of the Leafs defence or goaltending, but you can only address so much in a short amount of time.

The Richard size contest needs to end. Both teams are in decent shape. The battle of Ontario should be more meaningful very soon and thats a great thing.

Pointless? Silly? The guy asked if anyone on the Sens scored 27 goals. I replied.

The pointless / silly post was yours. Try reading what people post. It helps.

The difference between mathews and Karlsson is that mathews is tainted by an intentional disgraceful tank.Throw buffalo boy in that tainted mix as well. Not to say Ottawa is innocent of such tatics aka Daigle that lead to the dumb bingo ball draft pick order but we all know how that tainted pick ended up.

The Sens details were provided just as Marleau's had been previously mentioned in the thread and I added a few comparables to contrast the $6.5M the Leafs gave him.

Again, read from the start of the thread. Follow along to the whole conversation. It helps you understand what is being discussed.

Would you like me to break this thread down for you in small pieces so you can catch up with the rest of the posters? Are two syllable words OK? Maybe a few pictures?

turds fans speaking of the matleau signing is a joke. he scored more goals than bobby Ryan had points, and has less term.

and Phaneuf. lol. another way worse contract. and you traded for him. even worse.

not really. no one really expects the turds to be a factor in the Atlantic division going forward.

no. that's the truth.

find any poll, odds, whatever. you'll generally find toronto, Tampa, and to a lesser extent Montreal as the favourites in the atlantic.

All that is meaningless, only thing that matters is results which are yet to be determined.

true I guess. i was just responding to the statement that the battle of Ontario will be meaningful again soon. I think that assumes they'll both remain bubble teams and that, in the opinion of most, isn't the case. the Leafs are on the rise.

I get the feeling the Habs leafs rivalry will be a little more pertinent in the coming years. and maybe a Tampa vs leafs rivalry is in the works. and eventually a leafs vs jets or oilers rivalry.
